A Weekend with the Rev. Dr. John Phillip Newell

A former leader at Iona Abbey, Newell will guide us in an approach to a new harmony based on his book, A New Harmony: the Spirit, the Earth, and the Human Soul. The event will consist of presentations followed by meditative practice and shared reflection. Ancient wisdom from the Celtic world and the emerging wisdom of new science will shape the presentations. Silence and simple chant will be our tools of meditation. Lenten Retreat

Join members and friends of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Newport, and others for a Lenten Retreat beginning Friday evening, March 9 through Sunday noon, March 11. The theme of the retreat will be “Where Does God Dwell?” and will utilize the text of Jesus Cleansing the Temple in John 2:13-22 as a guide. Much time for self-direction, rest, relaxation is planned along with prayer, Holy Eucharist, and social fun. Fr. Matthew Young, Rector at St. Paul’s, will serve as facilitator. Celtic Art Exhibit

The show will include over 50 oil paintings by Cynthia Matyi. Many of these are large, colorful, intricate creations which draw from the ancient tradition of Celtic illuminations. The artist uses these complex compositions in a way that reflects the questions, concerns and crises of contemporary life. Symbolism and repetition of symbolic shapes form a vocabulary which is essential to this Celtic style. With Cynthia Matyi’s work, ancient motifs, and many newly created ones, take on special relevance . . . When: February 17 to April 8

Lenten Series on Ethics

Emmanuel Church, Winchester, invites you to participate in a Wednesday evening Lenten series on Ethics beginning February 29 running through March 2. There will be a potluck dinner each Wednesday evening followed by a guest speaker and group discussion. On February 29, Sam Dick, evening anchor for Channel 27 News, will start off our Lenten series with a talk about ethics in Journalism. The Honorable District Court Judge Vanessa M. Godly Play Training

Godly Play teaches children the art of using Christian Language – parable, sacred story, silence, and liturgical action – helping children become more fully aware of the mystery of God’s presence in their lives.
